MAXIMIZING CRISIS RESILIENCE: OKL FOUNDATION UPGRADES GLOBAL ‘WASH’ TECHNOLOGY WITH CAWST CANADA FOR EAST NUSA TENGGARA
In the classroom with Karen (CAWST Canada) and fellow strategic partners at Ragam Foundation. This session is more than just a workshop; it is an intensive Technical Transfer of Biosand Filter technology and Water Quality Testing (DWQT) (doc. Nancy)
Librarypost.com Badung, Bali | Building upon the humanitarian commitment established during past crises, OKL Foundation (OKL Street Library) has taken a strategic step in strengthening community water governance. Over two intensive days, February 7-8, 2026, at the Ragam Foundation, OKL Foundation participated in high-level technical training organized by CAWST Canada.
Led by global WASH expert Karen, the training focused on Biosand Filter Construction, Drinking Water Quality Testing (DWQT), and Household Water Treatment (HWTS).
Refining Post-Seroja 2021 Interventions
For Oktavianus Klau Lekik, Founder and Lead Researcher of OKL Foundation, this training serves as a critical evaluation of previous field operations. When Cyclone Seroja struck in 2021, OKL Foundation was on the front lines, providing clean water assistance to more than 3,500 survivors across 5 Villages in Aintasi, Malaka.
“We have been active since Seroja 2021, but we recognize that community resilience demands higher technological precision,” stated Oktavianus. “This partnership with CAWST Canada is our effort to maximize the effectiveness of water assistance in NTT, ensuring every drop of water consumed by the community is safe through scientific microbiological testing.”
Literacy as the Root & Digital Ethnography
The daily program serving 60+ children every single afternoon in Malaka will now be bolstered by a Water Literacy curriculum. As Lead Researcher, Oktavianus utilizes this platform for Digital Ethnography, documenting how global technology transfer strengthens the Strategic Partnership between OKL Foundation, Ragam Foundation, and CAWST.
Academic Validation & Oxford 2026
The technical data and field experience from 2021 to this latest training form the backbone of the international study:
“The Role of OKL Street Library Community Program In the Eradication Efforts of Illiteracy In East Nusa Tenggara”
These findings are currently being finalized for a presentation at the University of Oxford in March 2026, co-authored with Prof. Thomas Szymansky (ACE, USA) and Dr. Ikma Citra Ranteallo (Universitas Udayana, Indonesia). (By editor team)
