LibraryPost.com Jakarta | The Europe on Screen (EoS) 2024 Film Festival officially concluded on Sunday 16th June 2024 after showcasing an impressive 75 films from 28 European countries with 240 screenings in 8 cities during 10 days. The festival was closed with a screening of the German film Every You Every Me and announcement of the winners of EoS 2024 ‘Short Film Pitching Project (SFPP) competition.
Held at Erasmus Huis Jakarta, the closing ceremony was attended by H.E. Sandiaga Uno, the Indonesian Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy, H.E. Denis Chaibi, the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Indonesia, H.E. Ina Lepel, the German Ambassador to Indonesia, Adriaan Palm, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Meninaputri Wismurti and Nauval Yazid, the Festival Co-Directors of the EoS 2024, alongside ambassadors and diplomats from participating countries.
H.E. Sandiaga Uno, the Indonesian Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy, highly appreciated the organising of the EoS film festival. He stated, “Europe on Screen has been a testament to the rich tapestry of stories that unite us across continents and cultures. EoS is not just a film festival; it is a bridge that connects Indonesia with Europe, fostering a spirit of cooperation and mutual appreciation among filmmakers, artists, and audiences.”
H.E. Denis Chaibi, the EU Ambassador to Indonesia, said: “Europe on Screen is about coming together, watching stories of diverse backgrounds and reflecting on the different perspectives. This film festival is about community, openness and diversity. It is about the significance of EU’s motto ‘United in Diversity’ as well as Indonesia’s motto of ‘Bhinneka Tunggal Ika’.”
“We also take pride that Europe on Screen goes beyond film screenings. The festival promotes interactions, enabling European and Indonesian film professionals and emerging talents to share their thoughts and experience via film talks, workshops and the film pitching competition. At the end of the day, it is what we want: a dialogue which bolsters creativity between the EU and Indonesia is something we both need. It is something that we can benefit from and that will be enriching for both, the EU and Indonesia,” added EU Ambassador Denis Chaibi, Jakarta (16/6/2024).

The closing film of EoS 2024 is the German romantic drama Every You Every Me (2024), directed by Michael Fetter Nathansky, that depicts the feeling of breaking up, and the beauty of falling in love. Every You Every Me was officially selected for the Panorama Audience Award at Berlinale 2024.
The German Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Ina Lepel, said, “Having Every You Every Me as the closing film is a sweet way to end the only film festival in Indonesia that presents a carefully curated selection of recent films from European countries, including 12 German films screened during EoS 2024.”
As in previous EoS, the three winners of the EoS 2024 SFPP competition were announced during the closing ceremony. The three winners were selected from 10 finalists who underwent a judging process on 12 June 2024, the judges were:
Marlina Machfud, Film Specialist of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.Teddy Soeriaatmadja, Film Director, and Rina Damayanti, Film Producer and Festival Director of Jakarta Film Week.
“The ten EoS 2024 SFPP finalists submitted a variety of ideas based on observations of social conditions in society and deep personal experiences. From a very personal topic such as grief when losing a loved one, to trending issues such as sandwich generation and bullying. I cannot wait to see the outcome when the ideas from these winners of SFPP EoS 2024 are produced into short films,” said Teddy Soeriaatmadja, a director of Indonesian recent film.

1st place: Tutup Hari Kiamat by Dzauqy F. Ilham (Batu).
Will receive prizes in total amount of IDR 63 million, which includes:
Production fund of IDR 23 million from Europe on Screen in partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Production fund of IDR 5 million from SAE Indonesia, Audio post-production facilities from SAE Indonesia, One (1) offline short course voucher on the topic of offline video editing and two (2) offline short course vouchers on the topic of screenwriting from SAE Indonesia, A hamper worth IDR 2.5 million from Kemala Home Living.
2nd place: The Sadness is Not Over Yet by Tanzilal Azizie (Cirebon).
Will receive prizes in total amount of IDR 38 million, which includes:
Production fund of IDR 19 million from Europe on Screen in partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Production fund of IDR 5 million from SAE Indonesia, Two (2) vouchers for an offline short course on screenwriting from SAE Indonesia, A hamper worth IDR 2 million from Kemala Home Living.
3rd place: Wali (The Guardian) by Rayhan Syafiq Renaldi (Bekasi).
Will receive prizes in total amount of IDR 27,5 million, which includes:
Production fund of IDR 15 million from Europe on Screen in partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Production fund of IDR 5 million from SAE Indonesia, One (1) voucher for an offline short course on screenwriting from SAE Indonesia, A hamper worth IDR 1.5 million from Kemala Home Living.
According to Meninaputri Wismurti, EoS 2024 Festival Co-Director: “We started the SFPP in 2018 as a platform to nurture the next generation of Indonesian filmmakers, as well as to build connections with European professionals. This year, 80% of the finalists are from outside of Jakarta, and we increased the prize value up to 40% from last year.”
This was affirmed by Nauval Yazid, EoS 2024 Festival Co-Director. “Winning films from the SFPP programme always receive great responses from our audiences. And so are our other programmes and film screenings, which continue to attract enthusiastic audiences on a daily basis throughout the festival.
